If your life feels like a runaway train, if you don't know how to slow down the carousel, I want you to know that you deserve peace, and stillness and a life that feels restorative. That you are more than what you do, even if what you do is good or mediocre, or meaningless, or meaningful.
You deserve to enjoy this life. You deserve ease. --Nora McInery
Welcome!
I'm Elisa (she/her/hers).
I am a licensed, clinical social worker providing in-person psychotherapy in the Chapel Hill/Durham area and via telehealth throughout North Carolina. I treat a range of problems and concerns including eating disorders/body image distress, trauma, depression, anxiety, life transitions, emotion regulation, family of origin, and relationship issues. I see older adolescents (age 16+) and adults of all ages. I aim to provide a safe and non-judgmental environment for people of all gender identification and sexual orientations.
About Me.
I am a New Englander! I received my undergraduate degree from the University of Rhode Island and my graduate degrees in social work and public health from Boston University. I worked for many years in medical social work with various populations, including women's health and HIV/AIDS.

In 2014, I began working at the UNC Department of Psychiatry at The Center of Excellence for Eating Disorders (UNC CEED). I have specialized training and experience treating individuals who express concerns about their eating or who feel dissatisfied with their bodies, including individuals with anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, or binge eating disorder. I am especially skilled in treating the intersection of eating disorders and trauma. I also treat mood and adjustment disorders, relationship difficulties and emotion dysregulation. I draw from CBT, DBT, and IFS. I am also trained in EMDR.

I reserve a few spots to provide clinical supervision to provisionally licensed practitioners. I am also available for ad hoc consultation.

When I am not working, I am usually wrangling my teenagers and snuggling with my dogs...they make my life complete! I love to hike, read fiction, start (but not always finish!) knitting projects and bake treats.

Therapy works best when clients feel heard, supported, and safe. If I am not the right fit for you, I will help you find someone else who is.

I look forward to hearing from you!

What forms of payment to do you accept?

Payment is expected at the time of service and can be in the form of check, cash, or major credit card.
What is your cancellation policy?

In order to both organize my practice and guarantee clients regular times, I schedule a single weekly (or biweekly) time slot for a client. Missed sessions are not billable to insurance and may be charged. I reserve the right to charge the cost of the full session when appointments are missed or cancelled with less than 24 hours notice. Missed Session or Late Cancel Fees can be waived for emergent issues only. If you do not show up for your scheduled therapy appointment, and you have not notified me at least 24 hours in advance, you will be required to pay the full cost of the session.
What are the fees for a therapy session?

My out-of-pocket fee per 50-minute session is $145.

Do you offer telehealth?

Sessions are available in-person or via secure telehealth. Both types of sessions are covered by insurance and you may choose either type at any time during our work together. I take multiple precautions to prevent the transmission of COVID in my office, including staying up to date on vaccines, keeping the windows open, and using an air purifier.
